Abstract
Recent growth of social classification systems due to steadily increasing popularity has established a multitude of heterogeneous tag spaces. Tag suggestions are meant to be an effective means to efficiently provide well-matching key words for resources, e.g. to bootstrap an empty tag space or to evolve an existing one. Research in this field has produced a multitude of unrelated tag suggestion methods. This paper proposes an evaluation concept to compare suggestion methods in order to retrieve cross-algorithm knowledge to adaptively find well matching algorithms for a tagging use case. Therefore we introduce appropriate measures for comparison, and present results from practical studies for selected recent tag suggestion algorithms.
